The daily work of the Security Operations Department includes patrolling the park to ensure there are no potential hazards in the surroundings. If any emergency situation arises, immediate response and handling are required. Besides, to ensure that new colleagues have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities, I will be responsible for providing step by step guidances to each new colleague to adapt to the work. For example, to explain the security duties of different positions and provide practical on-the-job training.
I have been working in Aquarium Department over ten years as I chose to start my career life in Ocean Park since my graduation. With the Park’s continuous expansion, more exhibitions of the underwater world were developed and shown to the guests. It was my honor to be the representative of the Park to have technical knowledge exchange with other international aquarists or aquaculture experts in different places such as Okinawa. I have brought back the sharing from other aquariums based on these valuable exchange opportunities and experiences which equipped us with the knowledge and skills to strive for further improvement on both the facilities and tools for Ocean Park.
Being the staff of Engineering, we are working in a challenging environment every day. We need to get familiar with a wide range of knowledge fields, including mechanical, electrical and electronic. Although the job duties of the General Services Department may have less interaction with visitors, it greatly influences visitors' experience. My daily work mainly involves supervising the cleanliness of the Park, ensuring that visitors can experience a comfortable and clean environment. I aspire to work in the Park because I find the atmosphere very appealing. Colleagues will treat each other as family members to work together, and care for each other outside of work. Having my colleagues around me makes me feel comfortable and cheerful. Moreover, the Park provides various job and learning opportunities for employees. For example, I am currently taking a course on pest control and the safe use of pesticides, which allows me to gain more professional knowledge and equip myself. Therefore, I am also grateful for this learning opportunity, as it allows me to enhance my skills while working.
I joined Ocean Park as a Sales Associate – Photo in 2011 through the Youth Employment and Training Program. At first, I did not have any experience in either photography or customer service, but my colleagues and supervisors were very supportive to me. Besides, the Park also provided me with a wide range of trainings in order to help me to familiarize with my job duties, as well as to improve the skills in photography and customer service. It is grateful that I was promoted to Shop Supervisor in just a few years and now internal transfer to work in Fun Learning Department. I am pleased to work in Ocean Park as it brings me a great sense of achievement and satisfaction, especially when I won commendations from visitors. This indeed motivates me to move forward.
The preparations for the Main Entrance Operations Department begin before the visitors enter the park. During the park's operation, we assist visitors with entry, crowd control, addressing visitors' issues and inquiries. It is highly challenging because we encounter different problems that require immediate solutions every day. When I first joined the Ocean Park big family, I was just a part-time employee. It was always busy, but my colleagues were dedicated to teach me. What made me happy was the wonderful colleague around me. Everyone has a strong bond of teamwork, the whole team is supportive and considering regards to all the obstacles and challenges we are facing. Ocean Park also provides various employee benefits and welfare, along with training and staff activities to enrich our staff' experiences.

Actually, it is fun and challenging work in Ocean Park.
Being the Management Trainee of Food and Beverage Department, I was rotated to more than twenty departments to obtain different knowledge and experience the job tasks. These experiences enrich my working experience and also equip me with communication skills and social capability. When I returned to Food and Beverage Department, my supervisors gave me lots of chances. There are many challenges and I feel satisfied and being recognized when I tackle the challenges. I am delighted to see the improvement either at work or the ability to deal with people here. I hope that I can keep exploring all my possibilities and make continuous progression in the Park.
I joined Ocean Park as a Guest Relations Officer in 2007 and now I am a Guest Relations Supervisor. I was one of the representatives to take part in the Corporate Exchange Program with MTR. I was arranged to a station to perform practical job roles and brought back some practical knowledge such as how to guarantee the service promises to guests and award program for back of house to the Park. It also is my honor to be one of the Ocean Park corporate trainers to present a newly established orientation to new joiners and induced a strong sense of belonging to them. I think the Park is a bridge between employees and employer to provide career exposures to staff.

I was the first intake of Graduate Trainee in Ocean Park in 2012. At the beginning, I got opportunity to know the operations in the theme park. After one year of job rotation, training and on-job experience, the Park became a magnet that attracts me to stay and grow. I am the Management Trainee now. The Park provides a wide range of trainings. Apart from traditional training program, there are also some drama-based trainings, outdoor trainings and etc. I had broadened my horizons to understand the operations of the Park and got many chances to take part in different activities in the Park during the journey of being Graduate Trainee and Management Trainee. I worked in different positions and departments through the internal transfer opportunities, such as, being a Bird Trainee in Bird Department and a Supervisor in Marine Mammal Department. These provided me with fruitful opportunities in taking care of different kinds of animal species, from the sky to the ocean, and making me a true profession in this area. I treasured the recognitions and rewards given here for my hard work in animal care, it is my honor to be the team star award winner within the department.
Providing a high-quality of catering service is an essential part of the dining experience. Staff in the Food and Beverage Department will receive training before they start their duties, which includes menu design, beverage preparation, knowledge of wines, as well as training in fine Chinese and Western cuisine, specialty restaurants, and large-scale banquets, not to mention the food safety management (ISO 22000) and Occupational Safety and Health basic training. In addition to front-line duties, I am also involved in assisting with scheduling roster and allocating resources, which exposes me to a wide range of responsibilities. Although the work can be busy, the hands-on experience will contribute to my future career development.
The Health Services Department is always ready behind the scenes, providing professional emergency medical services. We primarily standby at the First Aid Posts, and if emergencies such as fires or accidents on rides happen, we will arrive the scene of accident as soon as possible. We also ensure an adequate supply of medical equipment and maintain their functionality. Since our work is unpredictable and may involve handling multiple incidents simultaneously, apart from receiving prior training, being eager to help others and calm is crucial. Our department conducts different first aid training sessions every month and collaborates with other departments for drills. One of the most memorable experiences was a few years ago on Christmas Eve when our team received an emergency call and immediately departed. After we arrived, a visitor had already lost consciousness and had no pulse. The visitor was in critical condition, and we initiated emergency medical care while calling for reinforcements from the Fire Department. Eventually, when the visitor was safely transported to the hospital, the condition had been stabilized. The most meaningful aspect of this job is being able to help those in need. For me, witnessing the transformation from a visitor's discomfort and anxiety, to becoming more stable and reassured brings immense satisfaction. Although our work may not receive as much attention, we are indispensable as same as other departments.
Before I started my full-time career in Ocean Park, I worked as a short-term Contract Halloween Talent Coordinator in Events & Entertainment Department for a few years. I was then employed as the Area Manager of Ride and Attraction Operations Department to manage the opening of the Thrill Mountain. Also, I had to oversee the daily operations of Thrill Mountain, ensure the safety of ride operations and train the staff to deliver great customer service. This big change of the job role was indeed a brand new attempt to me. I had definitely strengthened my confidence for the trust from the Park. I am very grateful and appreciate all the opportunities that the Park has given me, which I can make a continuous improvement in my job and also make a lot of friends here. The Park provides us with “Ocean of Opportunities” that I believe we should never hesitate to grab one.
In addition to the daily gardening work, this job is more challenging than what people think of. It can develop our interests and requires creativity in the job, such as being responsible for trimming and maintaining various sculpted trees. The greatest satisfaction in this work is feeling respected, especially when visitors take photos happily around the tree sculptures I have created. It feels like going on a trip while working. Therefore, as long as you are passionate, enjoy the nature, and are creative enough, you can join the family of the Landscaping Department.
